Medicating

Don't know how to pill a cat or give eye drops?

You are not alone. Giving medication to a cat you are not familiar with can be a cause for stress. Giving your cat medication can be a bit tricky, but don't worry, it's totally doable! You need to be prepared, and be confident.

If you have to give the cat a pill, you may be able to put it in a small amount of their food or in a pill pocket.  It isn't always this easy however & some medications need to stay in the capsule or can't be crushed. Cats are smart and may know when you are trying to trick them. The vet MIGHT be able to give an alternative application of the medication (liquid or transdermal), talk to your FC if you are having issues giving the cat the pill.

The cat may be pretty chill about being medicated, or you may have to 'purrito' them. You may need to wear gloves if you think the cat may resist, bite or scratch. If your cat is a spicy one, talk to your FC before you try and pill them. Be sure to have some treats for after you have medicated them.

There are several medicine hubs located around Toronto. Your FC will arrange for a medicine pick up at the hub closest to you.
